ECGs and Pacemakers

چکیده
Leadless pacemakers will most likely be the future of cardiac pacing. Leadless pacing employs a singlechamber system to pace only the right ventricle and is fully self-contained, which eliminates the need for leads. These systems, implanted by using a transcatheter sheath, are indicated for patients who need right ventricular pacing only. These devices enable patients to avoid lead-related complications, from lead fracture to extraction challenges, as well as pocket-related complications such as infection and disfigurement. Leadless pacemakers also are compatible with magnetic resonance imaging and do not require surgical placement, so patients avoid postoperative mobility restrictions. Because this technology will be increasingly used for cardiac internal electronic devices, commonly seen in critical care nursing, nurses must be knowledgeable about the indications for use of a wireless pacemaker, the implantation procedure, postprocedural care, device interrogation, and follow-up. This article discusses leadless pacemakers, clinical indications for their use, key similarities and differences between the current devices being used, key points for nursing care of patients with a leadless device, and the future of this technology. A prototype expert system for analysis and diagnosis of single chamber paced ECGs
A rule-based expert system has been proposed that will assist clinicians in the often difficult task of analyzing multi-channel pacemaker electrocardiograms (ECGs). Analysis of the pacemaker ECGs is important to the follow-up evaluation of patients with implanted pacemakers. Because of the complexity and variability of pacemaker algorithms, diagnosis of pacemaker ECGs is often considerably more...
متن کاملSgarbossa Criteria are Highly Specific for Acute Myocardial Infarction with Pacemakers
OBJECTIVE In 1996 Sgarbossa reviewed 17 ventricular-paced electrocardiograms (ECGs) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) for signs of ischemia. Several characteristics of the paced ECG were predictive of AMI. We sought to evaluate the criteria in ventricular-paced ECGs in an emergency department (ED) cohort. METHODS Ventricular-paced ECGs in patients with elevated cardiac markers within 12 ho...
متن کاملErosive Pressure Dermatitis Associated with Cardiac Pacemaker
Erosive dermatitis is a skin reaction associated with implantable cardiac devices (ie, pacemakers and cardioverter defibrillators). We report a 65-year-old man with a history of several cerebrovascular attacks who developed an erythematous crusted erosive patch over the pacemaker site after implantation of two subsequent pacemakers. We suggest that physical irritation may be a trigger factor fo...
متن کاملTHE ROLE OF PACEMAKER CLINIC IN THE FOLLOW-UP OF PATIENTS WITH PERMANENT PACEMAKERS
The Pacemaker Clinic at Shahid Rajai Cardiovascular Research Center first started operating in August 1992. In its first year of operation, 294 permanent pacemaker patients were studied, allowing an appraisal to be carried out of the clinic's effectiveness in diagnosing and treating early complications. In the final analysis, pacemaker complications were observed in 68 (23%) patients, of wh...
متن کاملToxicological Effects of a Post Emergent Herbicide on Spirodela polyrhiza as a Model Macrophyte: A Comparison of the Effects of Pure and Nano-capsulated Form of the Herbicide
Background: One of the main reasons of environmental contaminations is the broad application of herbicides. Controlled release technologies such as encapsulation of herbicides are as an effective tool to reduce environmental contaminations. The aim of the present study was successful nanocapsulation of Gallant Super (GS), its characterization and compare the physiological responses of Spirodela...
